ICU, Surgical Center to working from home as an RN with Aetna
My career began at my local community hospital as a Nursing Assistant while I was in nursing school. Once I obtained my RN license, I applied for a position in the ICU working the night shift. After two years of working nights, a day shift position became available. I applied and was offered the job. I absolutely loved working in the ICU caring for critical patients and their families.
Fast forward to when covid hit. Everything changed in what seemed to be a blink of an eye. Nurses were being overworked and being sent to work in departments that they had no training in due to the over abundance of patients. ICU nurses were staying in rooms with covid patients who had to be intubated until they could get flown out to a bigger hospital. These times were very draining on all the nurses and staff who worked in the hospital.
An opportunity opened up for me to work at a brand new surgery center. I was asked to work five 8-hour shifts with no holidays and no weekends. While I loved my job as an ICU nurse, this job was very appealing to me after being in the hospital during the pandemic. At the time in my career, it seemed like a good fit for me.
I have been with the surgery center for four years now and it does not fulfill me professionally anymore. I started to think about the path that I wanted to take my career in because I knew that I didn’t want to continue to work at the surgery center. I began talking to several of my friends who work as remote nurses and spoke to them about their jobs and what they liked about it and how they started working remotely.
I began to become obsessed with doing multiple google searches on how to obtain training as a Utilization Review Nurse because this position seemed like the best fit for my career path. I finally came across Marie Peppers’ website where I found the Utilization Review 101 Course and began researching everything that I could find out about Marie and her program. I decided to purchase the UR Review 101 Course and immediately immersed myself in the class. I felt like I was learning so much not only in the actual classes, but all of the additional zoom meetings where Marie and her amazing staff give you extensive help on how to build your resume as well as interview preparation. Marie and her staff really take the time and give you all of the necessary tools to be able to have a top notch resume to land the remote job of your dreams!
Once I completed all of the modules and case studies and passed my test, I received my certificate of completion and began working on my resume. Marie and Nicole were so helpful and answered all of my questions in a timely manner. I sent Marie my resume and she reviewed it and made some changes and sent me back my final resume. I began applying for jobs. I couldn’t believe that one of the first jobs I applied to, I received a call for a phone interview. Several days later, I had a second video interview. While I did not get that particular job, it gave me the confidence to continue applying for jobs and sharpening my interview skills. After about a month and a half of looking for jobs and applying to them, I received a call for a phone interview with the company that I wanted to work for, which was Aetna/CVS Health. Several days after the initial phone interview, I was asked for a second interview. I interviewed on a Friday morning and that following Monday, I received a job offer and I accepted the position!
I cannot thank Marie and her amazing team for giving nurses the wonderful opportunities to learn all of these different facets of the nursing profession. I know that I would not have been able to land the remote job of my dreams without the help of Marie Peppers and her team. Thank you all so very much for making my dreams a reality.
