Nurses Day 2022
Today on National Nurses Day, I look back from the beginning of my career to where it is today.
My dream of becoming a nurse became a reality nearly 24 years ago.
My nursing roles have changed over the years, but once a nurse always a nurse.
I’m saddened our profession is in turmoil and the nursing shortage is higher than ever.
We have a shortage in safe patient ratios and leadership as well.
The system is broken and dangerous.
Nurses have spoken out at what they’ve witnessed at the bedside.
Many have walked away.
Some chose to do so on their own.
Others have been fired for speaking the truth or for not complying with mandates.
However, I am so thankful for what nursing has done for me and the doors it has opened, and how we can help beyond the bedside.
Many of us are natural born leaders, problem solvers, critical thinkers, and coaches.
And more and more of us are growing our own businesses, leaving the bedside both by choice and by force, to make an impact that fulfills our purpose.
From health coaching, side hustles, digital course creation, mentorship, and so much more, we are creating our own path.
Nurses are the givers and the caretakers in this world.
While taking care of others is at the core of what we do, please remember that your health is just as important as your patients!
YOU are a nurse and ESSENTIAL.
YOU always have been and always will be!
